About Tiblor

Tiblor helps people understand how sales tax works — and how to calculate it in reverse. We build free, easy-to-use calculators paired with clear, well-researched explanations, so anyone can check a total, verify a receipt, or learn the math behind a tax rate.

We are not a law firm, an accounting firm, or a financial advisory service. We are an educational resource. Everything on this site is designed to help you understand tax calculations — not to replace professional advice.

Our Mission

Sales tax math looks simple until you actually need to reverse it. Most people know how to add tax to a price. Far fewer know how to work backward from a total to find the original price, or how to check whether the tax on a receipt was calculated correctly.

Tiblor exists to close that gap.

Our mission is to make reverse sales tax calculations easy to understand and easy to verify. We do this through:

  • Free calculators that perform the math instantly and show their work
  • Plain-language explanations of the formulas behind every calculation
  • Real-world examples that connect the math to everyday situations, like receipts, invoices, and purchases
  • State-level reference information to help users find relevant tax rates

We built Tiblor because tax calculations shouldn’t require a spreadsheet, a finance degree, or a guessing game.

What Tiblor Does

Tiblor provides two things: calculators and education.

Calculators

Our reverse sales tax calculator takes a final, tax-included price and a tax rate, then calculates the price before tax and the exact tax amount. It also works in the opposite direction, calculating a final price from a pre-tax amount and a rate. Every calculation uses the same standard formula, applied consistently:

Before Tax Price = Final Price ÷ (1 + Tax Rate)

We explain this formula on our calculator pages, rather than just showing a result. Understanding the math matters as much as getting the number.

Education

Alongside our calculators, we publish plain-language guides that cover:

  • How reverse sales tax works, step by step
  • Worked examples across common situations, such as retail purchases, restaurant bills, and vehicle sales
  • Reference tables for common tax rates
  • Explanations of related concepts, like the difference between tax-inclusive and tax-exclusive pricing

We write every guide in plain English, at a reading level that anyone can follow, without losing accuracy.

What Tiblor Does Not Do

We want to be direct about our limits, because trust depends on clarity.

Tiblor does not provide:

  • Legal advice. We do not interpret tax law or advise on legal obligations.
  • Financial advice. We do not recommend financial decisions or strategies.
  • Tax advice. We do not prepare returns, calculate liabilities, or advise on filings.
  • Accounting services. We do not manage bookkeeping, audits, or financial records for individuals or businesses.

Tiblor is an educational and calculation tool. If you need advice specific to your situation, we recommend speaking with a licensed accountant, tax professional, or attorney in your jurisdiction.

Our Approach to Accuracy

We don’t claim our calculators or content are perfect. Instead, we explain how we try to keep them accurate, so you can judge that for yourself.

Methodology

Every calculator on Tiblor is built on standard, publicly verifiable math — the same formulas used in accounting and finance education. We don’t use proprietary or hidden logic. If you want to check our work, the formula is always shown alongside the result.

Tax rate reference information is compiled from publicly available sources, such as state revenue department publications. Because tax rates change and local rates (city or county) can vary widely within a single state, we treat our rate references as starting points, not final answers. We always recommend confirming your local rate with the appropriate tax authority before relying on it for a financial decision.

Update Process

Tax rates and rules change over time. We review calculator logic and published rate references on a regular basis and update them when we identify a change. Pages that include rate data show a “Last Updated” date so you know how current the information is.

Correction Process

If you find an error — in a calculation, an explanation, or a reference table — we want to know. Every correction we make is based on a specific, verifiable issue, not opinion. We review reported errors, verify them against a reliable source, and update the page accordingly.

You can report an error using the contact information below.

Why We Explain Our Reasoning

A lot of calculator websites show you a number and nothing else. We think that’s not good enough for something as easy to get wrong as tax math.

That’s why every Tiblor page explains:

  • What the calculator is doing
  • Why the formula works the way it does
  • How to do the same calculation by hand, if you want to check it yourself

We’d rather you understand the math than simply trust us. If you can verify our answer yourself, you don’t have to take our word for it.

Privacy and Your Data

Our calculators are built to work without collecting the numbers you enter. You can use them without creating an account or submitting personal financial information.

For full details on what information we collect and how it’s used, see our Privacy Policy.

Who Tiblor Is For

Tiblor is built for anyone who needs to work with sales tax numbers, including:

We don’t assume you have a finance background. We write for people who just need a clear, correct answer — and an explanation they can actually follow.

  • Publishing calculators built on standard, transparent formulas
  • Writing content in plain language, without unnecessary jargon
  • Reviewing and updating our content and rate references on an ongoing basis
  • Correcting errors promptly once verified
